Abstract

The paper explores the BRICS trajectory related to decarbonization or low carbon transition. The agenda emerges in the face of scientific evidence of climate change and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate extreme weather events and the rising temperature of the planet that endanger life on Earth. The BRICS are not a consistent coalition in international climate politics. In demonstrating each BRICS’ trajectory, the article combines their emissions profile, the main policies to reduce emissions, and foreign policy positions.
