Abstract

From the perspective of long-term diplomacy, foreign policy cannot be detached from its socioeconomic foundations. Based upon a century-old historical understanding, this article identifies three major phases for the Brazilian foreign policy: BFP 1.0, linked to a primary-export economy since 1822; BFP 2.0, roughly overlapping with national industrialization in the 20th century; and BFP 3.0, still under construction, of the green-digital future, adapted to the requirements of sustainability and digitalization of contemporary society.
