Abstract

Donald Trump’s return to the White House became the main systemic variable shaping domestic and external dynamics in Argentina under the government of Javier Milei and in Brazil under the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In a context of increased U.S. involvement and influence in Latin America, while Argentina pursued alignment with Washington’s interests and received a substantial “carrot,” Brazil faced “sticks” and deepened its hedging strategy. An analysis of these strategies and their initial outcomes is the main objective of this essay.
