Abstract

In this article, I argue that the official Brazilian position on the Gaza war was predictable, due to the positions of previous Lula administrations. However, both the international and domestic contexts are different from those of his first terms in office. Polarization is growing at all levels, as illustrated by the reactions to Lula's speech to the African Union in February 2024 and the role of the far-right to the detriment of traditional harmony among Brazil's communities.
