Abstract

Given the centrality of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the international order and the Brazilian foreign policy, analyzing how the country behaved in the body is an essential thermometer for its diplomatic performance. This text examines aspects of Brazilian participation in the UNSC in 2022-2023. We propose, as a central argument, that in 2023 President Lula sees the UNSC as a privileged space to highlight characteristics of Brazilian foreign policy and emphasize the central principles of the country's international action in his administration in a context marked by the invasion of Ukraine and the crisis in Gaza.
