Abstract

We review the Brazilian foreign policy (BFP) of the new Lula government, which faces two challenges in recovering its traditions: the reconstruction of its insertion in the international system, after the process of isolation during the Bolsonaro Presidency, and changes in the global geopolitical order. We discuss the government's actions at regional level, its pretensions of systemic protagonism, climate agenda, and Lula's intensity as a key-actor in his diplomacy. We highlight the alternatives in terms of alignment and balance in the new international scenario.
