Abstract

Detailed analysis of Brazilian foreign policy during the period when Dilma Rousseff held the Presidency of the Republic still needs to be made available. Three career ambassadors held the position of Foreign Minister between January 2011 and August 2016: Antonio de Aguiar Patriota (from the beginning of the government to August 2013), Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado (from August 2013 to December 2014), and Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira (from January 2015 until the end of the administration). As Rubens Ricupero comments, time will demonstrate that there is more to this period than is generally known. This article seeks to illustrate this statement.
