Abstract

What could Lula’s third term represent in his return to the presidency? For comparison, this text presents other similar occurrences of the return of heads of governments to their posts, particularly the only other Brazilian case, that of Getúlio Vargas, who also returned to power in a scenario quite different from the first. The new Brazilian and international political context in which Lula’s return takes place is presented, considering which adaptations will be necessary, possible, or viable, concluding that unprecedented conditions require adaptations that experience helps to inform.
