The Bioeconomy: New Strategy for MERCOSUR

Authors

Abstract

MERCOSUR requires a review, given its limited productive and commercial progress, partially attributable to the difficulties of integrating pre-existing rigid national productive structures resulting from its members' late and adaptive import substitution industrialization strategy that revalues its natural resources, as well as its previous scientific-technological, labor, and business capacities. We propose to rethink the MERCOSUR strategy adopting the Bioeconomy as a vital component of a new sustainable development and environment-friendly model to "build" the integration growth based on new initiatives and associated competitive businesses.
